India is famed for two distinct types of tea.
Assam, rich, robust and full-flavoured, is the most widely drunk (we use this as the base for our English Breakfast Gold). Darjeeling is less common and altogether more genteel.
The gentleness of Darjeeling is in part due to the micro climate of the region. While still benefitting from the Indian sunshine, Darjeeling sits high up on the Lesser Himalaya. Here, at more than 1200 metres, the climate is cooler… and rainfall is plentiful. The conditions help to produce a tea that is incredibly subtle and delicate.
Much like champagne, Darjeeling holds a muscatel finish. Indeed, Darjeeling is often referred to as the ‘Champagne of Tea’.
The 1st Flush is the first pick, or season. This means all the goodness from winter is captured in each bud. The leaf is vibrant and brimming and we can be sure of a tea that is fresh, clean and rich in nutrients.
Cost Per Cup ~ 18p
